"Dear Smooth Jazz 104.3 Listener.

We are sad to announce that Smooth Jazz will no longer be available on the 104.3FM frequency. Due to declining audience ratings over the past couple years combined with a decline in advertising support from our clients, we had no choice but to make the difficult decision to remove the Smooth Jazz format from the 104.3 frequency.

The staff of Smooth Jazz 104.3 would like to thank you for your support over these past 8 years. As many of you know, Smooth Jazz has been on an FM station in Denver for nearly 20 years as prior to Smooth Jazz 104.3 coming on the air, KHIH better remembered at K-HIGH programmed Smooth Jazz for many years before changing format itself.

Knowing how much you enjoy Smooth Jazz, we will continue to make the station available for you to hear on our website- SmoothJazzDenver.com. In addition, we are pleased to announce Smooth Jazz Denver will now be heard on an HD Radio channel. Just purchase an HD capable radio and you will be able to listen to your favorite Smooth Jazz artists for free as always. Smooth Jazz Denver will be heard on HD FM 98.5-2 a multicast channel of KYGO our sister station.

FM HD radios are capable of picking up many more radio stations than the ones on a regular FM radio. When you purchase an HD capable radio, you will see how to hear all of these new radio stations for free. In Denver, you can purchase an HD capable radio at Circuit City, Best Buy, and Ultimate Electronics along with Car Toys. You can have HD radio in your car, at home and office by purchasing a new HD radio. That way, you will continue to hear Smooth Jazz Denver on your radio.

To learn more about HD Radio log on to www.hdradio.com. This site will tell you all you need to know about the amazing technology of HD radio.

Whether you listen to Smoothjazzdenver.com by streaming on this website or by purchasing a new HD radio, you will continue to hear Denver's unique blend of Smooth Jazz artists like always and it will be FREE! We will also continue to provide you news about Denver's Smooth Jazz music scene, upcoming concerts and events plus you will continue to receive regular e-mail updates from us.

Once again from all of us at Smooth Jazz 104.3. Thank you for your years of support!

Please, if you would like to leave a comment, please do."

I HIGHLY suggest leaving a comment or ten, letting them know how much of a vacuum that this format change has left in Denver, or at least thanking them for sticking with it when times have become tough for jazz demographics.

I have already heard feedback, the 'shock waves' from fans on the scene, saying that "their favorite station is gone" and that they "don't want to pay for satellite" to hear the latest smooth cuts. I'll be sure to let my friends and family know that at least the web and HD options are still available ...

Yours,
Kathryn @ TK

Hi folks,

It appears that the 'smooth jazz / R&B' vibe has returned to Denver, but now under new management and at a different place on the dial! It's now KKHI 101.9, "Denver's New K-High" and here's a portion of the updated WikiPedia article:

". . . On June 9, 2008, KGDQ dropped Regional Mexican in favor of picking up the Smooth Jazz format that was dropped several months earlier by KJCD, in which they will utilize programming from Broadcast Architecture's The Smooth Jazz Network. They also changed their call letters to KKHI and hired former KJCD hosts - morning host Kenny Cortes and one-time midday host Maria Lopez. In addition, the station airs syndicated afternoon host and sax star Dave Koz, formerly heard in afternoons on KJCD. In a statement from the online website All Access, Bustos Media CEO Amador Bustos stated that "We will put our improved 101.9 FM signal to its best and highest use, by filling an evident music vacuum in the Denver metro, with the outstanding Smooth Jazz format produced by Broadcast Architecture in combination of some outstanding local talent.

This is the third Smooth Jazz station to serve the Denver area, after KJCD (104.3) and KHIH (95.7)."

Denver still has classic/mainstream jazz on KUVO 89.3 FM (http://www.kuvo.org) where listeners can also stream online.

Best,
Kathryn

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.
