Historically, Jazz on the Green has always been a favorite amongst Smooth Jazz lovers looking to groove to the best in live smooth jazz in an incredible outdoor atmosphere. This year’s Jazz on the Green, Southwest Florida’s Premier Jazz event is a wonderful blend of Smooth & Latin Jazz, funk, R&B and more!

Since Southwest Florida has such a large Hispanic community and at one time had a very well attended Latin Jazz Fest, with Tito Puente Sr and Celia Cruz before their passing, Jose Feliciano, Johnny Pacheco and many more, I knew I had to try to bring this incredible music back to the area.

After spending six months in Costa Rica working on a jazz festival there, I returned to work on Jazz on the Green and urged our committee to integrate Latin Jazz Artists into our show this year. For our first year, we are bringing Arturo Sandoval (5 Grammy’s, 6 Billboard awards and an Emmy! What more does one need to say?), a new Smooth Jazz female saxophonist & vocalist, Jessy J. The multi-talented performer draws her inspiration naturally from her Mexican-American heritage and local favorite, percussionist Tony Pastrana / NY Latin Jazz.

I'd love to hear from members of the jazz network with suggestions on Latin Jazz performers for the 2009 event.

Yes you are right, Dizzy and Bauza minds got together along with Chano Pozo (Cuban Percussionist) and further developed Latin Jazz, a Jazz category of it's own.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
