Let's Create The Jazz Network Worldwide Award Show!!

I'm sick and tired of seeing that Jazz doesn't get its due at the Grammy's, It's time we all come together and have a strong voice... Who's with me?

There should be a Male and Female Vocalist category, Big Band, small combo, instrumentalist, etc. Bring the Great American Songbook back to the USA. Our greatest asset, as a country is our music. More Jazz, please. More Great American Music. Then, maybe I'll watch the Grammys.

Alexander Zonjic is also hosting the Canadian Smoothjazz Awards in Toronto in April. so maybe this jazz grammy thing is already in progress, just has to be expanded and done in a higher profile. The canadian Awards are not restricted to Canadian players, check it out. http://www.smoothjazznow.com/csja_nominees.htm

What a fantastic idea. I would love to be a part of this jazz effort. Detroit also only has one jazz station on the radio. Mr. Alexander Zonjic (flute) is one of the morning hosts. He would be a great resource. He is partners with Mr. Frank Taylor from the Frank Taylor Resturaunt Group. They own Seldom Blues and other venues in the area. Both are great sources of information and ideas. Anything I can do to help this effort you can count me in.

Tell me if this makes sense or not.

The bottom line is many of us on TJN could organize and produce a Jazz Grammies. I would love to do it myself. It is not that difficult. Just set up the advetising/publicity, pick the categories, pick a date, book the venue and line up the talent to perform. The difficult part as usual is funding.

Given that the jazz market is still (please don't flame me when I say this) a niche market it will be difficult to find sponsors - especially in this economy.

To me the obvious place to start is to find out how many of us on TJN are members of the Recording Academy. Perhaps form an on line committee or group?

Then we need to make sure all TJN has our contact info. Then folks could send comments and concerns about the producing of a Jazz Grammies to each of us and we would in turn share them with our local chapters.

If there is enough interest then theoretically the local chapters would send them to the national office.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
