Ronnie,

Yes YOU are someone that many know. The reason for this reference idea is to make sure that the masses know more about jazz and its influences. We've all 'felt the pain' of recognition of our art. You have been afforded some magical musical moments throughout your career playing with the best musicians out there, reason for that is that you have the talent, wisdom, knowledge to commendere these types of musical presentations. You also have brought your excellence to the forefront by teaching. There are only so many 'seats' if you will in the so called 'top tiers' of jazz currently, only so many musicians get the opportunity to play in those seats. We don't necessarily have to be in the 'top tier'....we are wanting to get recognized for the essence of the music, the sweat equity that goes into getting to the bandstand and the acknowledgement that it is a business just like any other out there making money for their crafts. So, keep spearheading your thoughts in a positive fashion for what you bring to the fold of jazz...your voice was created to speak in many ways, no one plays like you, sounds like you and can take in life like you. I ask that you know in your heart that we are a community that cares, there is a whole new face on jazz since its initial history and its up to us to put a 'happy face' on it and learn from its history.

God bless all you do, The Jazz Network Worldwide respects you and lifts you up and will include you on any presentations that deem forthright and blessed.

The real problem with what is going on is there is no value or respect given from each other. There is not much of a jazz community. We have gotten to a point where most jazz musicians in a position of recognition think they are the only ones. There ego has dictated there actions. We do not have a support system or the humility to understand that. Your talent is a gift! Your contribution to music is from your commitment and development to create something from your heart and soul. The grammy award gives people more visibility and the idea that they are deserving of it, when reality under a higher consciousness should not present your validation. Yes, we work hard to hone our craft, but for what, some of us will not long for the spot light, but long to live and be Blessed and Honored with each opportunity to play, create and advance our skills as artist. Many musicians are so hung up in this because of the glamour, when these types of attitudes and programs of fame were created it was for record companies, advertisers and a whole load of agencies making money from music they determined to be popular or deserving. What has it done for music, jazz in general? I would suggest turning your energy into something more spiritual and wholesome. But that is my opinion and of course that does not matter because I am not one that any one knows.

Perhaps ...just perhaps Jaijai....an "out of the box approach" to this ongoing problem of truly "exclusive" behavior from the "establishment" Grammy invested business side of the entertainment business is needed. Lets start our own JAZZ entertainment group...with it's own set of awards. Set our own standards and criteria for which genre to include and cover the whole spectrum of Jazz, including the cross-over and spin-off developments.

It makes a lot of sense....why beg or struggle to be truly recognized by an organization that doesn't have a real interest in the world that is JAZZ....so let's create out own venue....besides there's a lot of catching up to do for all the great Jazz artists, that have been left unrecognized over the years by the "commercial pop" industry....artists who have given so much to Jazz and worked and contributed to many other musical venues too....yet not recognized for the great jazz musicians they are/were....maybe we should call the awards the "Jazzies" ....or how about the "Jammies"

In essence it's inconceivable that jazz isn't given single Grammy status. I'm sure the reasons trotted out for this are, as ever, wholly obtuse. Of all musical forms jazz has proved consistently that it is the true innovator and so much popular music owes its success to jazz pioneers. I agree that a real consertive effort should be made to give jazz its rightful reward. Jaijai's so right. We should fight hard for it. All of us!

Since NPR is the only place that plays real jazz, what about approching them as the place to create the Jazz music awards? Unless you guys consider smooth jazz to be jazz, in which case maybe the NAB might be interested
