I love a quote by Phil Woods...best way to describe everyone's situation in this group I suppose:

"Three thousand musicians and only three gigs!" - Phil Woods

I'm looking for the venue. I will be able to play with Japanese Jazz Dancers. around New York area for next November.
I don't care for the money thing. Play in New York is my first aim. But we must film all for promotion to Japan.

Saxophonist Ron Aprea and vocalist Angela DeNiro are a husband and wife team that have been performing with their jazz quintet and big band in the New York. They've also been featured at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and headlined at the Les Nuits du Jazz Festival in Nantes, France. Their signature sound features Angela scatting along with Ron's alto saxophone. Angela DeNiro, with the Ron Aprea Orchestra, has three albums to her credit, all of which feature the writing of Ron Aprea, along with composer/arranger Frank Foster and Dennis Wilson.

Lionel Hampton, after recording his solo on Angela's Swingin' With Legends album, had this to say: " ...Angela has got the voice, boy! You feel that big voice coming out of that girl...her voice is great and her diction is perfect! I'm so glad I was on that date with you (Angela)...you are a great talent. I put you in the class with Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald...tell everybody look out...my girl's comin'!"

So who are Ginger & Scott?

A really hip, really fun husband-and-wife vocal jazz duo, made up of vocalist/lyricist Ginger Berglund and vocalist/trombonist/composer/arranger Scott Whitfield, that's who! :>)

Together, Ginger & Scott bring to the stage their silky vocal blend, innate sense of swing, and reverence for the jazz tradition, evoking memories of Jackie Cain and Roy Kral (among others). The Great American Songbook serves as a centerpiece of their repertoire, but they also perform some of the great jazz classics, along with a sprinkling of original material. Add a dash of international flavoring, and an evening with Ginger & Scott is sure to bring long-lasting musical memories!

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.
