hello everyone,
....are any of you Finale notation software users?...i'm thinking of starting a group. I'd like to be able to post scrolling listenable scores of my music that have not yet been recorded...i'd appreciate any and all feedback and tips.

Hi, Mike. I've been using Finale for nearly five years. I'd love to hear what you've done with it. I'm not exactly a power user, but if I have anything helpful to offer, I will.

I've been using Finale for about 16 years...i've used it to write 4 symphonic works as well as a lot of large scale arrangements and an array of tunes...i even worked free lance for IRCAM in Paris early on...i still don't know if i'm a power user....i'm using Finale 2008 on a Mac but ...i prefer Macs but it works great on PC too...
Have you ever posted anything on the Finale site itself?...I know it's possible...maybe direct links to their webpost page???...i'm not sure if that's member priviledge or not...probably...i'll have 2 check....still tryin' 2 figure out how we can show and tell scores on jazznet...

I mainly write songs and use Finale mostly to create simple, three-piece back-ups for them, occasionally with a solo instrument as well. I save the Finale parts as AIFs, import them to Deck, and record vocals (and, more recently, live guitar parts) over them as demos. You can hear the results on my page. All but three the tunes there feature all or mostly Finale backup. The most complex of the bunch is "Romanian Nightmare", a Gypsy-style tune with a more complete arrangement, all using Finale.

I submitted a couple of pieces to the Finale site back when I was still using PrintMusic, five or six years ago, but stopped when they changed their format.

Tried Finale 2009 recently, but it was just too much for my rickety old eMac to handle. Went back to my trusty 2004 version, where I will stay until I can afford a new computer.

Something tells me that running Finale files here would require the active cooperation of both Finale and TJN. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope so.

You can bet on the need for cooperation between the publisher and the site for .mus file postings. Besides, one would have to be running a recent enough version of Finale to be able to access them.

The probable limit is posting .pdf formatted files of the charts or lead sheets themselves (which limits the accessibiltiy somewhat, although Adobe does distribute the Acrobat reader for free). I'm not entirely sure that the site supports such postings, in any case (someone please advise).
I bought Finale about 2 years ago and never have been able to figure out how to use it. Anybody know of any workshops or anyway to get help with it? I'm in Brooklyn.

Hello, Mike: That sounds like a great idea. After reading your request, I googled Finale. I only had a little time to look at the overview, so I must ask. Does the software allow the musician to play piano as it charts the music on the staff?

I'm an experienced user of Finale but often in need of specific tech advice in using it. Anyone willing to help? In trade, I can provide lessons in music theory, advanced harmony, and modulation. I live in Brooklyn, NY, but am willing to confer via phone, Skype, or mail.
