Tell us a little about your background...
Byron Colborn was born in Santa Rosa, California on May 27, 1981. After spending his first years in the nearby town of Kenwood, Byron moved north to Davis, CA. He first took up the piano, followed by the alto saxophone in the 5th grade. Byron was exposed to jazz by his first saxophone teacher, Ms. Celia Cottle and soon switched to his true love, the baritone saxophone in the 7th grade. Though exposed to jazz in middle school, Byron didn't start investigating music fully until he reached High School. Despite the efforts of terrible band directors throughout his education in the Davis School system Colborn managed to keep his love for music growing. Byron's education in music accelerated most during his time spent with his favorite teacher Mel Martin. After graduating High School, Byron went on to further his studies in music at several schools in California including Sonoma State University, Sacramento State University, the University of California at Davis and American River College. He then transferred to the renown Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2004 and will be graduating this May. Byron contiues to progress and has recently added the bass clarinet to his doubling instruments. While at Berklee Colborn has studied with the likes of George Garzone, Herb Pomeroy, Ralph Peterson and Frank Tiberi. After graduating from Berklee Byron plans to move to New York to attend graduate school.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
