Tell us a little about your background...
The name “Canda” represents a natural glow, a burst of intense light. This light undoubtedly shines from this passionate American singer, songwriter and musician, where she exudes her inner glow from her quiet smile to the moment she embraces the mike with her melodic voice. Contemporary Jazz, Soul, and Rhythm & Blues, make up this lovely and beautiful singer/songwriter, as she makes a unique stamp on adult contemporary music. Her graceful style, silky vocals and lyrics are hypnotic to the soul, bound to lull you into a state of total relaxation. Characterized as "Sweet-voice" in conversation and in music, she is a versatile artist, whether composing jazzy lullabies or flowing with the seductive beats of Groove and Smooth Jazz music, her range is captivating.
Coming from an extended family rich with musical and artistic talents, at the age of 2, Canda first started to sing to her grand-uncle while sitting atop of his upright piano. At an early age, she became influenced by her father's jazz collection which included renowned vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Nancy Wilson. Later, Canda became inspired by jazz & soul artists Chanté Moore, Phyllis Hyman, Sade, and the late Teena Marie. Having received her Master’s degree in vocal performance, classical training helped her develop the vocal endurance she skillfully applies today as she continues to devote her talents in music as a writer, performer and educator. Her teachings as a voice and music instructor have allowed her to nurture her talents in voice, piano as well as flute.
Following her heart and innate abilities, Canda writes and sings with passion, sharing experiences of life and love over dramatic instrumentals and nu-jazz beats. Having graced the stage performing nationally and internationally, she is well vetted on committing to each performance and takes sheer delight in communicating musically to her audience. With each song, Canda naturally shows her beautiful light, with nostalgic melodies that attract the doting ear and ignites the loving and loved. She has won many hearts with her debut soulful single "Consider This", featured on her highly anticipated debut album. As she prepares to release her long awaited debut, we invite you to continue to listen and experience all that is Canda.

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.

Miguel Zenón Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard

Ever since he started becoming one of the best alto saxophone players in the world, Zenón has drawn from his upbringing in Puerto Rico. But, like many Puerto Ricans, Zenón lives in New York — where his quartet of 10 years has finally been invited to play the Vanguard. It presents new music in concert.
