What is your affiliation to the Jazz World?
Musical Artist, Vocalist, Composer, Fan
Tell us a little about your background...
Introduced to Jazz by my good friend Graham Hunter, trumpet player and highly active member on the Southend Jazz scene down in Essex. I just wish my ability to play Jazz was matched by my love of it (influences include Roy Ayres, Grover Washington, Miles Davis, Dudley Moore,Ramsey Lewis, Weather Report and Brand X). With my limited and informal musical training I dabble in composing anything from instrumentals to vocal tracks although these tend not to fall into the Jazz genre. I'll listen to, enjoy and draw influence from most forms of music from Classical through to Blues, Progressive Rock and World/Folk music which is one of the reasons why I love Jazz as it draws on so many different influences. I just wish I was clever enough to play it!

The two tracks I've added to my page date from around 1993/4. I've rediscovered my love for playing and composing again (particularly with all the PC- based kit that is now around). I've sourced an EMU Soundcard, discovered what the MIDI port on my old Roland W30 is for and hooked-up to Cubase so am hoping to start writing and downloading some new compositions shortly. In the meantime, I've been collaborating with another member, Phil Hanson. Check out the results here:

New track "Evolution" added to this page. This is part of a 21 minute piece I composed in the early 90's called "The Journey" which calls on a number of different musical styles (the whole piece can be found at: http://www.myspace.com/chris3west). This particular sequence calls on a number of influences from World Music to Latin and Jazz

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
