We have no rivers, we have no wells, we have no springs
only some cisterns, but even those are empty;
thus they echo and thus we worship them!
A torpid hollow sound, that sound of loneliness
A sound like our love, a sound like our bodies

Where are you located?
Getting lost in that hopeless little screen, otherwise in Athens, Greece.
What is your affiliation to the Jazz World?
Clinician
Tell us a little about your background...
Not a musician but a jazz amateur.
To my point of view jazz is above all an attitude.
I am profoundly convinced that the stream that sprang in America (hauling all African origins) about a century ago, all along nourished by diverse currents, has widened itself to evolve to a broad universal tide.
The spirit of this tide is mainly, to my point of view, creative freedom, trans cultural hospitality, pitch modulation (a concept similar to the one introduced for color by Paul Cézanne), or interchangeability, Picasso’s red for blue statement?
One more question: how should we consider the relations of jazz with musical trends who took root in various places of the world, trends based on traditions of minority groups and growing through improvisation and fusion, such as rebetiko, rai, Balkan brass band music, kletzmer, gypsy music?
My Musical References: Louis Armstrong, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Dizzie Gillespie, George Gershwin, Frederyk Chopin, Eric Satie, Claude Debussy, Ianis Xenakis, Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, Johnnie Mc Laughlin, Herbie Hancock but also: Manos Hadjidakis, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, Iggy Pop, Leonard Cohen, I Muvrini, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Bratsch, MC Solar, Youssou N’Dour, Emir Kusturica, Goran Bregović, Manolis Chiotis, Greek folk clarinet, African Percussions and others.

Welcome Mano to the JAZZ Network. I met many good friends here and feel that you'll do the same. Some of your music is so serene and tranquil. There's a feel of abstract and traditional.

Mano, thanks for the comments and welcome to the circle. When I have a little more free time, I'll write more fully, though I am afraid it will have to be in English as my Greek is dreadful! I now live near Aghios Nikolaos in Crete. There's not a great deal of jazz around here, but I still take an interest, particularly in Bill Eveans & Hampton Hawes. Keep up the good work, Maurice.

When I first learned about the Jazz Network I thought it was a fabulous idea.  The reality has more than lived up to my expectations.  I am constantly learning about new artists from all over the world who play many different styles of jazz.  I've made new friends, run into old friends and learned about new venues and ways to promote my career and new releases.  It has been such a friendly and welcoming experience that I was delighted to take advantage of this opportunity to be featured on the Network.  Thank you Jaijai and everyone who has chosen to participate in the Jazz Network!

Seldom do you meet a person who impresses you with both brilliance and kindness. Recently, I met such a person. Her name is Jaijai Jackson. I was drawn to her like a moth drawn to a flame. Her love of music is highly spiritual and her understanding of the business is remarkable. After many years in the music business, it is refreshing to meet someone like her.
