Beginning on electric bass, he studied privately with Mr. Michele Migone. Giovanni continued his study of music theory at The Duke Ellington School of Music in Nervi, Genoa, where he studied the double-bass with his teacher Aldo Zunino. During the 1990’s Giovanni took part in several “We Love Jazz” seminars where Giovanni had the opportunity to study and work with such jazz bass legends as Buster Williams 1997-2000, and Keter Betts in 2001. (In 1999 Giovanni was awarded a scholarship to study section bass/double-bass with Buster Williams.) In 1998 & 1999, he also participated as a sideman in seminars for theory and improvisation led by jazz saxophonists Plas Johnson, Paul Jeffery, and Charlie Mariano. As a result of these seminars, Giovanni had the opportunity to perform in concerts with jazz greats. In July, 2003 Giovanni presented American jazz pianist/vocalist Patti Wicks for her first European tour, in trio with drummer Giovanni Gullino, and was received with rave reviews from both the jazz critics and audiences during the tour. In 2004, Giovanni successfully presented & performed with sax player Grant Stewart, pianist David Hazeltine and, again, Patti Wicks. The summer 2004 tour with Patti Wicks included recording a CD, "BasicFeeling". The CD is a project of JazzMates, the company formed by Giovanni Sanguineti and Giovanni Gullino as a way to present less-known Americanjazz artists to a wider audience in Italy. "Basic Feeling" was produced andrecorded at Massimo Visentin's Studiottanta in Calliano for his label, JazzGuests. Released in Italy in January, 2005 through EGEA Distribution, the CD features Patti Wicks and alto saxophonist Claudio Chiara with JazzMates Giovanni Sanguineti and Giovanni Gullino. A member of the International Society of Bassists of Dallas, Texas (USA), Giovanni Sanguineti also teaches bass. Since October, 2002, he has been on the faculty of the “Scuola di Educazione ed Avviamento Musicale – Storti” in Genoa. He also teaches bass privately.

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!
