- George Colligan is a New York based pianist, organist,drummer, trumpeter, teacher, and bandleader, who is one of the most original and compelling jazz artists of his generation .An award-winning composer (Chamber Music America/Doris Duke Foundation grant recipient) and player (winner, Jazzconnect.com Jazz Competition), Colligan is highly in demand as a sideman, having worked with players like Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Buster Williams, and Lonnie Plaxico, both on the bandstand and in recording sessions (appearing on over 100 CDs). He has released17 recordings full of his intelligent writing and impressive technique. His latest CD on the Ultimatum label is entitled Blood Pressure . Colligan’s musical style incorporates everything from showtunes to funk, from free improvisation to 20th century classical music. His performances include dazzling technique as well as mature restraint.

George Colligan has toured, recorded , and/or performed as a sideman with Gary Bartz, Benny Golson, Gary Thomas, Dave Weckl, Steve Coleman, Eddie Henderson, Ralph Peterson, Vanessa Rubin, Steve Wilson,Richard Bona,Jane Monheit, Ravi Coltrane, Lenny White, Michael Brecker, Mike Clark, Nicholas Payton, Sheila Jordan, Miguel Zenon,Janis Siegel, Christian McBride, Billy Hart, Charles Fambrough, Mingus Big Band, Al Foster, Gunther Schuller, Mark Turner, Lee Konitz, Jamie Baum, Carl Allen,Michal Urbaniak and Stefon Harris, among others. Colligan is also on the faculty of the Juilliard School of Music.

When I first learned about the Jazz Network I thought it was a fabulous idea. The reality has more than lived up to my expectations. I've made new friends, run into old friends and learned about new venues and ways to promote my career and new releases. Seldom do you meet a person who impresses you with both brilliance and kindness. Recently, I met such a person. Her name is Jaijai Jackson. I was drawn to her like a moth drawn to a flame. Her love of music is highly spiritual and her understanding of the business is remarkable. After many years in the music business, it is refreshing to meet someone like her.
Historians will research our arts to characterize our culture in the future. Contributions by those who tirelessly support our significant art forms will help to define us. Jaijai has become a key ingredient toward that future and her importance to the jazz world cannot be overstated.
Her devotion to the music and passion for keeping it alive makes our world a better place. Jaijai, thanks for being you.
