- I grew up in a musical household. I was exposed to a different world in music by very progressive parents that raised me to live with an open heart and an open mind. Motown was my first love as a young child in the early 70's along with Donny Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and a big influences, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan. Then I started progressing into rock n roll with a sister 5 years my senior. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, Eric Clapton, The Who, etc...Early Elton John and just about anyone who could really play and/or sing. I even got into the disco era, or at least some of the music clumped IN to the disco era. Heatwave, Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall", Earth, Wind & Fire's "I Am", more Stevie Wonder, but back to disco, Donna Summer, Thelma Houston, The Bee Gees (yes THE BEE GEES), admit it, they were unique with their vocalized harmonies. Gerry Rafferty was to me a wonderful singer/songwriter. Around 1980 I started getting exposed to jazz and it took off to be a passion that runs very deeply in my life. I consider myself to be a jazz historian and along with the blues I cherish what was originated as true American music. I love the fact that jazz has grown into a world wide music, but I'm a bit saddened that it has fallen to the back of the class in terms of air play. That is why I'm so happy to be a part of this site. I play trumpet and have for around 20 years as I started out playing drums on upside down trash cans as a small child and progressed into my first kit. A lot of moving around as a child moved me farther away from playing the instrument I loved, and now I really am in love with the versatility of my horns and the fact I can throw them in a bag and take them anywhere and play. I am still highly influenced by drumming and percussion. There always seems to be a steady beat running in my mind. I credit Miles Davis as my greatest influence (now that's original!) but have been touched, moved and influenced by countless others who laid the ground work for America's music and now, the world's. I celebrate life and music. I'm glad to be celebrating with you good people...

- I wanted to say a big yes to knowing Rick Simerly. We are "distant" (by marriage - way back in the lineage) cousin-in-laws..hahahaha! Rick is truly a monster player and could not be a nicer cat. Don't get to see/work with him as often as I'd like.
The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!
