Hey everyone! I hope all is well with all of you. I am excited to say that Von Freeman is going to join us on our March 20th gig at the Harris Theater in downtown Chicago. Andy Kotz said… - I couldn't tell you much about the current jazz scene since I only compose right now. I have a regular, 80 hour-a-week truck driving job that doesn't allow me to even go out to see shows much less play one! That will change "when the time is right". I hate my truck driving job so much I can taste the day I can quit.
I can tell you that we had a jazz festival that is in jeopardy due to lack of sponsors. I don't get it. Minneapolis has 3M, General Mills, Target, Best Buy...some major companies and it seems none of them want to support jazz. It's a shame really. I got to play in it years ago when I was a regular "playa". But, like I said... I kind of drifted off when I had to get a "real job"... hopefully, there will be a jazz scene when I get to play my music here soon!!
The Dakota Bar & Grill (Minneapolis), The Artist's Quarters (St. Paul) are the two main jazz rooms though...

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!
