FLUTE FLUTE FLUTE ..... O.k. You may find different covers with the Lance Martin Band. We try to establish diffrent songs as jazz. I once had an album of Dizzy Gillespie's School Days: He covered some of the days pop tunes including the title track made famous by Louis Jordan. This ticked alot of people off, who, at time had their own ideas on what jazz is but Dizzy was able to have his own birth of cool and had young kids speaking Be-Bop. I think this is what is great about American music's history. So I like to cover anything that my imagination will allow. Some people like it , some people don't, but it still brings up the age old question [Since King Oliver, and Louis Armstrong, Bird, Dizzy, Miles, SunRa, Herbie, etc.] just what is Jazz? Listen to everybody from around the world on THE JAZZ NETWORK . Listen to their covers & originals. This is Jazz and this is what I love to do. Stuck up, stuffy musicians is a paradox to me, thay should find something else to do. If your love for music is not conveyed through its performance, or love for one another, just why are you here?

Musicians and the Respect Thang Part Two ... [Different Times, Same Pay]

Posted on September 4, 2008 at 2:30pm 3 Comments

Here’s something else which is going on in Boston and in Pittsburgh, I wonder if it’s going on in your cities.

Now function gigs are cool, because you can charge a fair fee for the client as long as you don’t have some musician under cutting your business by accepting much ,much less for the same gig. We call them Gig Wh***s They might as well wear gold hot pants, 9 inch heels, and a multi-colored afro wig; I think you get the picture. Now I understand some musicians may give the… Continue

MUSICIANS NEED MORE RESPECT

Posted on May 4, 2008 at 11:00am 8 Comments

If you went to our MySpace site [www.MySpace,com /Lanceamartincom] , there is a blog for musicians to share stories on how they are treated on the road, or on a gig.

There should be more respect for musicians in this country. The term "I'm going to play music" throws alot of non musicians off. They understand the word "playing" but they don't understand that you are actually "working" when you are playing on a gig. Back in Pittsburgh, as a flutist, I remember waiting to get paid, and… Continue

Lance I've been wanting to sing 'dont know why I didn't come'. Hee Hee don't even really know the title. My husband's a wonderful flute player and you sound good too. I like the sparce sweet approach you use on this song. Very vocal and that's a good thing.

RIP BUNNY, THANK YOU FOR A LIFE OF GREAT MUSIC

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN...

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!

Buster Williams
