Lily Cortes is one of the best female latin singers to enter the music scene. Lily has a unique sound that is soulful passionate and rhythmic. She has created latin music with an equally fine group of accomplished musicians. Lily Cortes is able to add passion and movement to the songs she sings such as, Bossa Nova, Contemporary Jazz, Salsa, Mexican, Cumbia, Pop, and Alternative music. She is dynamic, positive and full of energy. She is a cool refreshing glass of wine on a hot latin music scene.

Lily was born in the beautiful romantic region of Varacruz, Mexico. She was surrounded by music of Celia Cruz, Silvio Rodríguez, Caetano Veloso, Pedro Infante, Beatles, María Callas, Agustín Lara, Celina and more. Lily's heart and passion comes from her love for singing. She was raised with music from her grandfather playing a violin and her mother singing. Lily took to music naturally as a child and sang in the local church where she learned the basics.

In 1995 Lily entered the University of Varacruz with scholarships for her musical and academic accomplishments. She learned and discovered everything about the music she loves. Lily studied bel canto chorus and musical theatre in the university and for a private theatre called ANK Company. She sang for Fomento Artístico Cordobes, she recorded with Salomón Hernández Carrera and participated in the chorus for a musical. She studied in radio and broadcasting. Lily worked in television Estamos Buscando Estrellas from Telehit, and 91.3 radio station. She completed her studies and graduated with a psychology degree with a minor in music.

Lily's sense of adventure and new found independence with her career attracted her to the beautiful exotic coastal city of Playa Del Carmen in the state of Quintana Roo Mexico. The area has become the center of multicultural and premier latin music. Lily honed her talents in singing in original songs with latin rhythm in multiple bands. She performed for 5 star resorts and top clubs and bars along the famous 5th Avenue. It did not take long before her talents where noticed by local radio and television stations. Lily started working for the top station in Playa Del Carmen 98.1 Riviera FM. Lily put her style and passion into multiple advertisement commercials for major companies and sponsors. Her collaborations with bands and performers have allowed her to improve and grow as a great latin female singer. Lily has performed projects with Carlos Skinfill and Adriana Vasty who are rising stars in the latin music community.

In 2009 Lily left her beautiful country of Mexico to continue a life with her husband in the United States. She confesses that now she has stronger feelings of romance and love she often sang about in her songs.

Today Lily continues her career and her craft as a singer. Lily pours her passion and soul into every song she sings. Her glass has never been so full and the audience is always thirsty for more after a taste of music with Lily Cortes.

My new sample song. El Pastor "The Shepherd" very old song about a Mexican shepherd using a flute to control his herd, He arrives at dawn and leaves at dusk. The voice will imitate the flute and also start softly and end softly in the distance equal to the day of work for a shepherd. He speaks to the animals with song and they understand his sadness happiness and loneliness.  It is a very nostalgic song for me because I was raised with listening to it as a child. It is a pleasure to sing

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Barbara Carroll On Piano Jazz

Pianist and singer Barbara Carroll was host Marian McPartland's second guest during the first season of Piano Jazz. Thirty years later, Carroll makes a return appearance to reminisce with her friend about their experiences at the Hickory House and the Oak Room. Carroll gives a charming performance of "Very Early" and McPartland improvises a musical portrait of her guest.

Duke Ellington: Highlights Of His Twilight

The great composer and bandleader was distraught over the 1967 death of Billy Strayhorn, his songwriting and arranging partner of 28 years. But Ellington took Strayhorn's passing as an impetus, born of necessity, to increase his own productivity. Here are five examples.

Chris Potter Quartet On JazzSet

At the Village Vanguard, one flight down from the hubbub of New York City, in a tight space packed with people, we're about to embark on a musical odyssey by sea. Our captain is saxophonist Chris Potter, who's launching his Odyssey-inspired album The Sirens.

Pat Metheny And John Zorn: A Vivid Sound World

The two artists are known opposites in the world of instrumental music. On Metheny's latest, the jazz guitarist wrings an unexpectedly visual listening experience from Zorn's knotty compositions.

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.
