Have been playing guitar for almost 40 years. Studied with Billy Bauer, Jack Wilkins, Ted Greene, John Stowell, and others. Although I earned a college degree in another discipline, I minored in music, taking all the classical and jazz theory, and arranging courses I could. And as you know, the learning never stops. I have also studied classical guitar for many years.
I've played in clubs throughout the Los Angeles area. I like big band, but particularly enjoy small jazz group settings, and solo jazz guitar where I have less limitations. Although I now gravitate toward the more traditional sound of an arch top guitar straight into an amp, I still have tons of electric gear from my funky, fusion days, and who knows, should the right project come along, the cases and dust covers will come off! My influences on the guitar are George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrell, Johnny Smith, Pat Metheny, George Van Eps, Joe Pass, Harold Alden, Jim Hall, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jack Wilkins, and so many others. Don't even let me get started with saxophone or piano players. There are so many new, amazing young guitarists whom I'm constantly discovering, bringing me fresh energy and inspiration, and renewing my spirit to hear and try new things. In spite of all this, I try not to actually think like a guitar player when I improvise.
I do not confine myself to a singular 'school' of jazz. At times, particularly when playing solo guitar, I'll enjoy an almost nostalgic, if not romantic, Americana treatment of old tunes. Yet, when in a modern, group setting, would be inclined toward a modernistic harmonic, and rhythmic approach. Well, eventually some tracks will follow.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.
I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.
My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."
