Tell us a little about your background...
Steve Vafai Janbahan (born in Los Feliz, California ) is a guitarist, bassist, drummer and

composer from the San Fernando Valley in California. He has recorded 4 albums independently which are available on Fourhead Records, a record label he founded in 2010. While mostly known for his guitar playing and original compositions, Janbahan is equally at home in all styles of music. He has worked with Jaman Laws, Ronnie Laws, Guru, Randal Fisher, Meleo Robinson, Fusion Drummers Roger Moreau and Joey Heredia to name a few.

As a Leader



* 2004: Apartment Music

His first solo album, Janbahan recorded all of the music himself in various apartment buildings with home studios. The music on this album contains a 30 minute suite with each piece of the suite representing a different home in an apartment building. The music experiments with tape editing, MIDI, overdubs, live mixing techniques, and Steve's working band named after his last name(Brooke Emilio, Eurvey Diaz, James Gabel, and Jaman Laws). Album art by William “Animal Vafai.



* 2007: No Band's Land!

Janbahan recorded his sophomore album featuring William "Animal" Vafai, Anthony Montano, Brooke Emilio, Roger Moreau, and Joey Heredia. Album Cover done by artist Roly Poly. The concept of the album was developed by Janbahan and Roly Poly.



* 2008: Fried Chicken

Almost entirely consisting of overdubs and musical support by Jaman Laws and Roger Mureau this project features Janbahan’s skills on multiple instruments.



* 2009: Home Tone

His latest recording, is the first recording to feature the collaboration of Stave Janbahan and Randal Fisher. The music is meant to be documentation of Janbahan’s growth as a composer. There is also a special guest guitarist named Melvin ‘Meleo’ Robinson on the album.

Free Association



In 2010, Janbahan, and saxophonist Randal Fisher formed Free Association featuring all original music composed by the leaders of the band. Featured in the band are bassist Jamal Arjuna and drummer Roger Moreau.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."
