Tell us a little about your background...
Born in 1986 in São Paulo, at Vila Sônia neighborhood, grandson of the sociologist Leonilda de Paula, great-grandson of multi-instrumentalist Jaques de Paula, Billy grew up in a family of musicians and at 4 years old already disturbed the teachers of the school with questions of type. “what is impeachment?”. His father, in love with music from the youth, used to sing some songs on an old guitar, which has become his first musical influences. His mother, pianist, studied at the dramatic conservatory and in the course of her career developed several pieces erudite but his music was built mainly of volunteer work to churches, poor communities and programs for social inclusion. At 5 years old, Billy learned to read by himself with the father and the newspapers and in pre-school to 6 years old, has been highlighted by his autonomy. At 9 years old, Billy becomes part of choir of the Santo Antonio Caxingui parish where he started his musical experience. At the time, with his cousin and best friend Leo lived to make some small jam sessions of folkloric and gospel music. At 11 years old, Billy gets his first guitar for a birthday present. Self began with songs that were popular into the swing axé. And another win, this would be the most important not only in music, but throughout his life: Vinícius de Araujo. At 13 years old, Billy formed his first ‘Ska-Core’ band as guitarist with the Cristian (bass) and Diego ‘Shuda’ (drums). They played some hits of punk bands like The Ramones, Garotos Podres and might even one itself music. But they did not leave the garage, or better, the room of the drummer because of the lack in rehearsals which resulted in the name of the band, ‘The Ferrets’. At 16, Billy joins in with Vinícius and form the first project more seriously, the band MM’s S/A (Mamutes Sempre Ativos). Now, Billy took the bass and some vocals, ‘his brother’ Vinícius took the drums and Caio Volpe went to guitar and vocals. The band was essentially by own songs. They’d played in places of the underground scene of the season as the Zinc Rock Bar, Outs and the famous Vila Rock, the hall where all started small garage bands. It was then that there was a meeting with other bands at festivals and concerts and born great friendships that persist to this day: Julio Cezar Petterman (Banda Colombina), Elvio Pimenta Neri (Banda Hideki), and Gabriel Cerpa. The MM's S/A lasted approximately two years between frequent testing, recording over-all, irreverent lyrics and songs dedicated to the young audience. They separated apparently without a serious reason. Now in the first job, Billy is replaced by the more serious Guilherme. At 18 years old, along with Vinícius and Gabriel Cerpa, formed the project ‘Frida’. Totally different sound that did before, Frida had a proposal for a work of drawing up a little more refined music. There begins to experiment with music production. Lacked the bass as Cerpa and Guilherme were guitarists and Vinícius, drummer. The three guys lived a time of musical tastes expanded and heard more from samba to reggae. At 19 years, Guilherme joined to the college FATEC-SP in the course of Technology in Hydraulic Engineering and Environmental Sanitation. A busy life and musical influences more individual (João Gilberto, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, João Bosco, Roberto Carlos, Cartola) have made him abandon the project Frida. At that time, the constant need for a totally new expression pushed Guilherme to his personal musical project. Then Teomar Vibratto was born... At 20, Teomar Vibratto puts out his lyrics and his daring to produce and started a shy work of some new songs. Teomar continued work of composition and production, which resulted in the album ‘Flor de Jasmim, tá ligado?’ (Jasmine Flower, got it?). Alone he composed sambas and realized that alone could go a lot more opportunities for partnerships and therefore a work of producing much richer. To be continued

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.
