Long Live Bakers

For those of you that don't know. Bakers Keyboard Lounge in Detroit is one of the oldest jazz clubs in America. This weekend marks 75 years of great music. Stop by and say hello as we jam the night away in support of this institution. http://www.bakerskeyboardlounge.com/

Detroit Music Awards Nominee

Wow... I'm honored to be a 2009 Detroit Music Award Nominee for "Outstanding Jazz Album". I look forward to the show at the Fillmore Auditorium on April 17 at 7PM. Tickets are on sale at Live Nation for $20. Come out and support local and national Detroit acts! Thanks to all who voted this year. More info can be found at www.detroitmusicawards.com

Life Is Good

I was just thinking about the lil' things that make life so sweet! Today I'm preparing some arrangements for my band New Generation. I called up a few cats whose music I dig, and decided on the members I want in the group. Hopefully, I can keep them around long enough to create the sound that I envision. These guys are in demand players, so they are hard to keep up with. So far I asked Desean Jones, Jon Dixon, Damon Warmack, and Nate Winn, all of whom are fire ass players. I am so looking foward to the summer rehearsals...

YES WE CAN!

Beautiful Morning

It was the sweetness of November I recall. We stood as progenitors on the thrown of history as the winds of autarchy kissed our ebony faces. Oh what a beauty freedom is. Something. Something willing under the tingle of my skin gives me the power to hold the sistrum of hope in one hand and the sekhem of audacity in the other. Today I muster the courage to sing "I AM A MAN!"

Tell us a little about your background...
A Detroit native, Carlos Redman has grown into one of the most prolific experimental trumpeters of our generation. Blending a sultry combination of Hip-hop, R&B, Rock, Jazz, and Classical genres, the young horn player continues to defy boundaries as he is often drawn in comparison to the great Donald Byrd.

At an early age encountering people such as Betty Carter, James Carter, and Donald Byrd his beginnings as a young performer in small venues and jazz festivals has blossomed into a career standing on stage with Jackie McClean, Sam Rivers, Fred Wesley, Aretha Franklin, Terrance Blanchard, Wendell Brunious, Hal Galper, Peter Martin, Clyde Kerr, and Aaliyah.

Traveling and encountering people from all over the world as a composer has grown him a reputation as a capable artist that fervently loves writing music that not only speaks for people in the mainstream, but ever mindful indigents that speak of the basic humanity of man.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!

Dear Jaijai:

What a wonderful thing you have created here and thanks so much for the fabulous feature you did for my music and me. As I am new to TJN I am fascinated by what you have created. There are so many talented artists here and it feels like I’ve gone to heaven. Your father and I were close friends over the years and Duffy still is. He played in my trio at Arturo’s in Miami Beach last summer. (2007) And I have worked with him off and on since he was 12 years old. I just know your father is very proud of you and the site is a work of art! You have created something of real value for the jazz community and all I can say is Bravo!

"The Jazz Network has come into being at just the right time. I believe that we are forever in need of spiritual and artistic enrichment and the way I see it, music, particularly jazz music, is all about the spirit. The Jazz Network allows us to reach out to our fellow artists across the world, in a way that has not been seen before, enlightening us as to who's out there making hip and happening music and helping to shape the culture. Whether artists approach this music from traditional perspectives or attempt to create new and radical sub-genres of jazz, the Jazz Network
is providing exposure, performance and recording opportunities that we might never have found on our own.

The Jazz Network is an amazing resource for the Jazz community. I'm
honored and happy to be a part of it.

Jaijai, thanks for your faith and what you're doing for the jazz community"

Best,
Nicolas
