Tell us a little about your background...
A Composer/ Producer/ Pianist living in Los Angeles, Earl R. Johnson, Jr. has worked professionally with a veritable "Who's Who" in the music industry; including Brian McKnight, Wynton Marsalis, Gladys Knight, Jeffrey Osborne, Patti Austin, Stevie Wonder, Chante Moore, K Ci and Jojo, Brand New Heavies, Kenny Lattimore, Beyonce, and most notably as Keyboardist/ Featured Soloist for Chaka Khan. He has composed and/or conducted Dramatic Underscores for several film and television projects and for a variety of other honors/ situations. Earl has also collaborated with other noted composers Marcus Miller and Steve Tyrell. Earl has written and developed music curriculums for The International House of Blues Foundation. He has lectured on the university circuit and serves as a consultant and preeminent musical authority for several symposiums and panel discussions throughout the country. Earl currently serves on the advisory board for London Garcia's Music Boxx.

Earl has been voted the "2009 Jazz Artist of the Year" by The Los Angeles South Bay Music Awards. He also garnered two other nominations for "Songwriter of the Year" and "Keyboardist of the Year." Additionally, Rockwired.com nominated Earl for 2009 "Best Male Artist."

After much anticipation, Earl has now launched his solo recording career with his Sensational Debut CD entitled, "JUICY." The project is Contemporary, Jazzy with a Serious R&B twist. Both the project and the live show have been receiving critical acclaim. He has captivated audiences on five continents and has performed for several Dignitaries and Heads of State including Nelson Mandela and President- elect Barack Obama.

Earl has been heralded as one of the premiere composers/ producers of his era with an electric style that is nothing short of awesome. His music is cognitive and funky, even soul- wrenching. With his fiery solo style, complete with some delicious finger work, Earl weaves a musical fable of song.

But, after working with many of the music industry’s top legends, Earl blasts out front with "JUICY." Talk about the ‘it’ factor, this guy’s got it in a major way. “JUICY” takes you on a complete musical journey with ten original masterpieces. It takes an eclectic look into the mind of this prolific producer and songwriter. Earl makes the piano sing with all of the finesse and fluidity of a modern- day virtuoso. Each song pulls you deeper into Earl’s musical world and leaves you in high anticipation of what’s to come next. There will be no skipping around on this CD. You will definitely want to hear every song from start to finish. Whether you are listening to one of the highly charged (virtually danceable) red- hot tracks or one of the soulful, pensive ballads, your musical soul will be exalted.

Since graduating from Boston’s Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring, Earl has been very busy. His command of several writing and playing styles has afforded him the opportunity to tour and work with the very best in the industry. He is a prolific producer and has made arrangements for many Recording Artists. He has served as Musical Director for Gerald Albright, Marla Glen, Terry Dexter, Najee, Freda Payne, T.C. Carson, “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” and “Theotrilogy,” to name a few. Earl is also very comfortable in orchestral settings. He has conducted orchestras for a variety of musical situations including the wedding of actress Lela Rochon (“Waiting to Exhale”) and Director Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day.”)

“JUICY” has something for everybody. Whether you are in the mood for kicking back with a glass of wine or hitting the dance floor, this CD will definitely satisfy.

The “JUICY” CD is available at Zahra’s Books N Things in Inglewood, CA: Sounsations Records in Westchester, CA: 7th Heaven and Streetside Records both in Kansas City, MO: and Dusty Groove America in Chicago, IL. It can also be purchased online at: www.cdbaby.com/earlrjohnsonjr and iTunes.

Hi Earl,

Sorry we hadn't a chance to talk since our mutual friend Dr Derrick Finch's short comings. We had a wonderful tribute for him at the Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill and then a BIGGER event with Sandra Booker at USC where his mother witnessed all the love..... please stay in touch.

Hi Earl,
Thank you for your response to my posting.I am new to this game but appreciate listening to live music, especially Jazz. I am blessed where I live (Hirakata City) as there are three cities, mine plus two that border mine, that have annual Jazz Festivals. I am in contact with my 'local' festival but, am yet to attend any others. On 3rd & 4th May I will attent the festival at Takatsuki and do some networking, in the hope I can gather some contacts.
I was approached recently, by the nice man at "Pure Jazz Radio" (if you don't know of it, check-out the website), if I could do a 2-minuit weekly voice promotion of jazz events here in Japan. Before I commit to it I need to check-out how/what info' is available.
Which brings me to a problem; the Japanese inability (or incompetence)to communicate information. I think each festival operates independantly and don't pool their info' (I hope I am wrong).
I will take note of your address and pass it on, if/when the opportunity arises.
I have added your name, to my list of friends, and please lets keep in touch.
All my regards,
Barry.
