Tell us a little about your background...
Kathy Sanborn is a musician, recording artist, and songwriter. Known for her velvet voice, Sanborn performs her own original smooth jazz and adult contemporary songs with an elegance that can take your breath away.

A keyboard and piano player, Sanborn composes and produces both jazz instrumentals and vocal tunes. She released her first CD, Peaceful Sounds, to critical acclaim in 2008. Peaceful Sounds, a jazzy-new age blend of philosophical songs, also features trumpeter extraordinaire, Wayne Ricci.

Sanborn's second project, Small Galaxy, released in April 2010 through the Pacific Coast Jazz label. Upbeat and inspirational, Small Galaxy garnered a #4 ranking on the Top Chart of radio station WSCA.

Kathy's latest album, Blues for Breakfast, releases March 8, 2011. Also featuring GRAMMY® nominee bassist Scott Petito, sizzling drummer Chris Carey, and soulful trumpeter Wayne Ricci, Blues for Breakfast is Kathy's most exciting project yet.

The red-hot title track, Blues For Breakfast, showcases Sanborn’s love of jazz history and her affection for the famed musicians of the 1930s-50s who performed on New York’s 52nd Street. Sanborn says: “I wrote the song, Blues for Breakfast, as a fond tribute to the jazz masters of days gone by. On New York’s 52nd Street, the greats would ‘walk the high wire’ and enthrall and inspire new generations of jazz players. As jazz continues to evolve in the modern era, I imagine the masters are looking down and nodding their approval.”

Blues for Breakfast treats you to a sumptuous feast of lively, memorable tunes and sensual, heartfelt ballads. The Blues for Breakfast pièce de résistance is Kathy Sanborn herself: not only did she compose all of the album’s ten songs, she arranged and produced the project as well. As if that weren’t enough to impress, Sanborn’s signature velvet voice delights with every leap and spin, while gliding gracefully from lighthearted pieces to deeply emotional songs. All in all, Blues for Breakfast is a tasty musical treat you will want to savor over and over again.

Small Galaxy Review by John Shelton Ivany

Posted on January 22, 2010 at 12:00pm 0 Comments

This is the latest review for my new album, Small Galaxy! Mr. Ivany's kind words touched my heart . . .

“Kathy Sanborn is able to convey emotional truths with a sound no one else
can produce--a quavering joy that works equally well over an ocean or
acoustic chords of ballads. No one else sings like that.” --John Shelton Ivany, National News Bureau

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
