ALL THAT JAZZ

The music keeps me alive
Taking me to far away places of the mind to the unheard of galaxies of the soul
teaching me and reaching me as no other medium to laugh and to be amazed and to love
life like Mr. Laws says, “love will find away,” have you heard, or like Grover says, “Mister Magic.”
And indeed it is magic, or should I say magical, or should I say magical and mystical and mind blowing
to the riffs and tunes of Herbie ripping off Chameleon, sending the mind to another place and another time and, “Listen Here” says Eddie Harris cause I am coming at you making my horn scream, and Mr. Blacknus himself. Rashann Roland Kirk from the grave still holding that note so long that I am out breath on the Old Rugged
Cross cause we got all kinda crosses to bear but Horace Silver says this is a “Song for My Father and all is well, and don’t forget the ride on the “A Train cause it’s still running strong and was rode by so many. The music is Jazz and from it was born the creative spirit of so many, to move on, to build and to give of themselves the spirit of the universe that creates the melody that we so love that we live by and enjoy…All That Jazz

Even for one moment did you think that people would get so heated up about the Smooth Jazz versus Straight Ahead Jazz? It's a good debate and one that has been going on here in Chicago FOREVER!

Thanks Bro. Good Blog you started there. Lots of people contest who is legit with Jazz and who is not. I think the genre is big enough for all kinds and flavors, classical to contemporary, way out and smooth. Thanks for the comment on "Lost Without U" The guitar player, Brad Catron is on this site also...

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.

Miguel Zenón Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard

Ever since he started becoming one of the best alto saxophone players in the world, Zenón has drawn from his upbringing in Puerto Rico. But, like many Puerto Ricans, Zenón lives in New York — where his quartet of 10 years has finally been invited to play the Vanguard. It presents new music in concert.
