Tell us a little about your background...
I am based in Melbourne, Australia and front my own band, "Music for Lovers", We play in clubs and pubs around Melbourne on a regular basis and have a residency at The North Fitzroy Star Hotel. If you're in the vicinity drop by and see us. We are dedicated musicians, love playing and sharing our take on jazz , soul and R&B classics by people like Ruth Brown, Etta James and Billie Holliday, as well as some of our original music.

Alan Lee the great Australian vibraphone player gave me my start in Jazz back in the 80's. In 2008/9 I had the opportunity to do some gigs in London which proved invaluable.
I love jazz, but Billie Holiday in particular has been my biggest, single influence. I fell in love with her music when I was about 14. My soul influences are mostly Southern Soul. Percy Sledge, Otis Redding Mavis Staples, Lou Rawls. I had a visit to Chicago, Memphis, Nashville where I caught up with some great musician friends.
Music For Lovers is a beautiful, timeless, warm, and a rich, blend of blues, jazz, soul and gospel. I prefer intimate settings for my music. I guess I'm stuck on the good old stuff, music from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's...and my mission is to keep the old songs alive. There are so many great songs to sing.
Music For Lovers:
Yolanda 11 Vocals

haha you're so right about weddings - that's how I feel especially playing at them with the band so often... Yup - you're on the right track with your promo, at least it's pretty much free to promote on the internet - I'm not sure about spellings but think it's Maurice Cockrell strangely enough, will have to confirm tho - will probs see him on Sunday and ask xxxxx

PS. Enjoy Darwin and love to Steve and Phoebes!

Thank you Yolanda, there are only some samples of my music at my page, because I'm working on recording too in this moment :)) And about your recordings, it's enough good to hear your abilities and talent, and so nice voice. The sound reminds me at June Christy. I wish you good luck!!!!

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.
