Tell us a little about your background...
I am based in Melbourne, Australia and front my own band, "Yolanda II and The Moontones"formerly known as Music For Lovers. Currently playing clubs and pubs around Melbourne on a regular basis and have a residency at The North Fitzroy Star Hotel. If you're in the vicinity drop by and see us. We are dedicated musicians, love playing and sharing our take on jazz , soul and R&B classics by people like Ruth Brown, Etta James and Billie Holliday, as well as some of our original music.

Alan Lee the great Australian vibraphone player gave me my start in Jazz back in the 80's. In 2008/9 I had the opportunity to do some gigs in London which proved invaluable.
I love jazz, but Billie Holiday in particular has been my biggest, single influence. I fell in love with her music when I was about 14. My soul influences are mostly Southern Soul. Percy Sledge, Otis Redding Mavis Staples, Lou Rawls. I had a visit to Chicago, Memphis, Nashville where I caught up with some great musician friends.
Yolanda II and The Moontones has an authentic 60's jazz/soul sound, it's beautiful, timeless, warm, and a rich, blend of blues, jazz, soul and gospel. I prefer intimate settings for my music. Our repertoire includes music from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's...presented in our own unique way. My mission is to keep the old songs alive. There are so many great songs to sing.

Yes "The Jazz Network" is a great tool for sharing info and meeting people.

I am currently promoting our first cd, which we launched late last year at The Paris Cat in Melbourne. Our CD is a compilation of some sweet old songs...so if you like jazz, blues and a little soul.....
Hope you enjoy my site.
Peace y'all.

Yup - you're on the right track with your promo, at least it's pretty much free to promote on the internet - I'm not sure about spellings but think it's Maurice Cockrell strangely enough, will have to confirm tho - will probs see him on Sunday and ask xxxxx

PS. Enjoy Darwin and love to Steve and Phoebes!

Thank you Yolanda, there are only some samples of my music at my page, because I'm working on recording too in this moment :)) And about your recordings, it's enough good to hear your abilities and talent, and so nice voice. The sound reminds me at June Christy. I wish you good luck!!!!

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
