Attended Jimmy Holloways annual Black Tie Affair at the New York Hilton on Saturday Jan. 30th 2010. It was great as usual and I got a chance to perform with the Eric Frazier Quintet. It was a great time had by all.

Earlier today, I gave a lecture about jazz history. There was something that I said during the hour long presentation that really stuck with me. My statement went something like this:
"Jazz suffers today because it is so difficult to maintain a set line up for a band. The result is that you end up with a bunch pick-up bands that are put together for a specific gig based on who may be available because they don't have a better paying gig. This means that songs, within many jazz… Continue

I'd like to thank Carmen Milagro and Holly Stephey for the two live radio interviews I did today which gave me the opportunity not only to talk
about my music - and I can talk music forever! - but also about
two causes I'm involved in which mean a lot to me.
I rarely broadcast my involvement in any cause as I prefer just to
try and help quietly as best I can, but in both cases these 'causes'
are about to launch… Continue

Over the past few days, I've been pondering the importance of jam sessions and how they serve a variety of functions. I think what brought this on was a college musician who invited me down to their weekly Wednesday night jam session. I tried to explain that I didn't have a lot of free time these days and certainly not the time to play without getting paid. His facial expressions made me realize that he took it the wrong way. I believe he thought I said that because I felt like I was too good… Continue

I just visited my page at GHP Radio to find that I have been nominated for the new
GHP Radio Grammy Award.
Just to be nominated is supremely exciting for me - knowing what calibre of
artist and music Gary has on that network.
All very exciting.

This is the latest review for my new album, Small Galaxy! Mr. Ivany's kind words touched my heart . . .
“Kathy Sanborn is able to convey emotional truths with a sound no one else
can produce--a quavering joy that works equally well over an ocean or
acoustic chords of ballads. No one else sings like that.” --John Shelton Ivany, National News Bureau

I am still in awe.
I am savoring every mouse click which takes me into something new I never knew.
Music never heard, memories now instilled -- entwined within the sounds of sounds.
Blogs; talent; intelligence; technology; beauty (where's the coffee, I need to see more).
I see friends I haven't seen in awhile and some I just "faced" and smiled at moments ago.
I'm not in Kansas anymore, that's for sure.
Thank you for this… Continue
