The Obituary of Common Sense

My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by until today I read his obituary. Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance. For Common Sense had served us all so well for so many generations.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure… Continue

FATALISTIC SALSA

Step by step we’re mounting

The old brick house of life

Step by step we’re mounting

That odd brick house of life

It’s fake windows are shut

They’re always shut same way

Though they let bright and hot

Sunshine in every day

We’re clutching on the ropes

Of golden sunny beams

They’re mixed with all gone hopes

Lost generations’ tears

The dusty ash of souls

That followed once same way

Recently’s long… Continue

Jazz combo gig: Saturday, April 26

My jazz quartet, The Blue Gate Band, is slated to have its first confirmed gig at Nemeth's Lounge, 40 N. State St., Painesville, Ohio on Saturday, April 26. We'll be the first of four bands (and probably the only jazz ensemble, as the other three will be rockabilly groups) that night, probably starting sometime around 9:30.

The headlining band is Lords of the Highway (http://www.lordsofthehighway.com), a rockabilly group led by my friend and co-worker, Dennis A. Bell. Admission… Continue

PRIVATE ISLAND VIBE

Time stretches like honey

On your private island

You don´t need any money

On your private island

Feelings get physical

In the warm sunset light

Y´soul wished for a myrical

So you opened your mind

Let your thoughts flow

On the waves of the ocean

Forget yourself, go

Disappear without a notion

Don´t think, make free fall

Towards the darkening sky

Don´t whisper it, call

Call out loud you feel… Continue

CIGAR BLUES

when your soul is calm and blue

but you feel like screaming

when your heart like stuck in glue

has to go on beating

red light´s on your private stage

empty bar chairs next each other

gotta fight your inner rage

and you think you´ve got no brother

in rain of notes of fading tunes

you dance to the beat of tired blues

when you think you need more money

to drive´round Moon in coolest cars

when you feel you walk in… Continue

IMAGINARY FRIEND

Dark angel you are

My dangerous lover

My private big star

Live magazine cover

Ongoing inspiration

Everlasting lust

Island of Temptation

Must have I have must

Flattering butterfly

Forbidden passion fruit

My inner flame you are

Sweet sin in a nice suit

Shadow of naughty thought

Dream in steamy shower

Overgrown puppy I caught

Geezer Romeo, sexy power

A bit out of my league

Light ray in… Continue

The Art Of Emptying Bottles

Every time I empty a bottle of vinegar, wine, or oil

I think of my Italian grandfather (who had the romantic name of Valentino DiSalvo)

and how he’d bet people that he could get 30 or 40 or 50

or more drops out of a seemingly empty bottle.

I can hear him making this statement in broken English

to the neighborhood people in his corner grocery store.

They gather around a wooden table, their shoes… Continue

MYSTIC MOTIVES

I am walking on clouds

I‘ve got no wings

Friend Prophet shouts

While the wind sings

I float from my past

Rich in experience

Weightless hence fast

Homeless in Universe

I levitate above Earth

I drift from my past

Don’t remember my birth

Pilgrim among stars

Homeless in Universe

I send a kiss to Mars

It’s a blast not a curse

Pilgrim among stars

On shooting star’s hand

I´ll fly to the… Continue

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
