Can you hear the message of Jazz?

Yell.wav

Dear reader, please take a moment to consider whatever context that Danny Barker is speaking within this fragment. It's worth a replay.

What's he talking about? No right or wrong answer here – just thought. A clue of ingenuity:

Be The Change

Hi and blessings!

Although I've not physically met Steven Charles, or Karen Greene, or you yet, it is true we are much more alike, than we are different.

Steven and Karen both agree that the best way to promote this jazzy culture is to "Be the change you want to see". (Gandhi).

No good comes of criticizing, condeming, or otherwise complaining about other's tastes in music, or lack of enthusiasm, support, or venue.

It works by working it. "Be the Change" is a great mantra or… Continue

TONY ADAMO Straight Up Deal Urbanzone Records - GETS FIVE STARS

www.myspace.com/tonyrocadamo

CDBaby

For those who haven't experienced it...there's a mystique to the San Francisco bay area at night. It's unique to the 'City by the Bay.' Over the years many artists have captured this vibrant, earthy electricity and stuck it in the middle of their music regardless of genre.

Santana, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Tower of… Continue

Bay area vocalist Tony Adamo garnished a five star rating from Smoothjazz.com for his latest release, "Straight Up Deal." However, there's a lot more to the smooth jazz sound found on this recording than what they would have you believe. Tony Adamo, equipped with a deep baritone voice, belts out some real gyrating funk, R&B;and soulful jazz tunes on this fourteen piece CD, which also includes a… Continue

TONY ADAMO’S NEW GROOVE COVER ON A TOWER OF POWER TUNE

TONY ADAMO’S NEW GROOVE COVER ON A TOWER OF POWER TUNE

Fred Harris, UrbanZone Records

Los Angeles, CA

Singer-songwriter, Tony Adamo’s producer, Jerry Stucker was back in Los Angeles at Capitol Studios and Mastering working on new music tracks for Adamo’s new CD release.

In the mixed bag of Adamo/Stucker originals recorded at Capitol is a liquid cool cover of a song written by Tower of Power’s (TOP) Stephen “Doc” Kupka and Emilio Castillo. “Doc” was so funkified after… Continue

CD Baby

Jazz vocalist Tony Adamo struts back with his silky, charismatic, and, as I’m sure many ladies will confirm, seductive vocals on this clever new release Straight Up Deal . While I’ve classified this recording as smooth jazz, it really serves up equal doses of funk, smooth jazz, and R&B. There are also elements of island rhythms and cool, piano-bar jazz. A true cornucopia of coolness in… Continue

SussStanding (Us Standing with Understanding).

I speak to a very special Community here; at the behest of Jaijai. It is all about the fusion of our cultures; wherever we come from. You will hear an almagation of songs in my post: yet it all stems from Jazz, while I'm still (obviously playing the true artform). I'm going toward; and that with alacrity.

Whatever music is heard by hyperlinks, I perform the drums in concert (and agreement).

I never thought that I would have a career, though it is commonly (perhaps… Continue

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Barbara Carroll On Piano Jazz

Pianist and singer Barbara Carroll was host Marian McPartland's second guest during the first season of Piano Jazz. Thirty years later, Carroll makes a return appearance to reminisce with her friend about their experiences at the Hickory House and the Oak Room. Carroll gives a charming performance of "Very Early" and McPartland improvises a musical portrait of her guest.

Duke Ellington: Highlights Of His Twilight

The great composer and bandleader was distraught over the 1967 death of Billy Strayhorn, his songwriting and arranging partner of 28 years. But Ellington took Strayhorn's passing as an impetus, born of necessity, to increase his own productivity. Here are five examples.

Chris Potter Quartet On JazzSet

At the Village Vanguard, one flight down from the hubbub of New York City, in a tight space packed with people, we're about to embark on a musical odyssey by sea. Our captain is saxophonist Chris Potter, who's launching his Odyssey-inspired album The Sirens.

Pat Metheny And John Zorn: A Vivid Sound World

The two artists are known opposites in the world of instrumental music. On Metheny's latest, the jazz guitarist wrings an unexpectedly visual listening experience from Zorn's knotty compositions.

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.
