Industry In Pain

There are some discouraging signs going on in the jazz community and we need to figure out a way to help change the course that is being taken, a case in point, the radio stations taking jazz programmers off the air.

One of our Jazz Programmers, Bobby Jackson, at radio station, WCPN in Cleveland was the latest to get a pink slip and will no longer be a voice on the radio jazz scene. This is happening as we speak with other radio stations across the country and eliminating jazz programmers… Continue

Marta G. Bressi & Dirk Schreurs' Minds of Glass to be screened at the International Independent Film and Video Festival in Hollywood on Aug.4

Thanks to Marta G. Bressi who´s generously offered me her extraordinary talent to generate beautiful video images to all eleven compositions from my album ¨Minds of Glass¨ , we 've been able to create brand-new works together. This collaboration, which was born as two separate entities, came to fruition when I saw in Marta's digital art a reflection of my own visualisations when composing the music. It… Continue

Rules that kids won't learn in school,,,

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world doesn't care about your

self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your… Continue

HAS ANYBODY SEEN MICHAEL JACKSON'S BODY?

There are a lot of haters out there. But, the information average people, like you and I, are passing on to people about the real Michael Jackson is starting to take hold. Today my brother, who was a typical hater, told my him and his spouse stayed up late last night to watch a Michael Jackson concert in Budapest. Not only that, but my brother, who's a known Prince fan, even went so far as to compare him to Prince in a positive… Continue

“Extremely high!”

High.wav

[From the Dept. of Corrections] There is no reference to: optisimo, or optissimo in the Harvard Concise Dictionary of Music. But I'm glad that I was sent there by Mr. Barker, nevertheless. My copy of Forsyth's, Orchestration needed dusting off, and still no such term to describe, the extremely high register in which Louis Armstrong enjoyed playing in. (Mr.… Continue

Cabaret!

I think it’s safe to say I’ve now reached the pinnacle of my career: I get to play with the Kit Kat Klub band! I like playing trombone by itself, but getting to do it in women’s clothes and doubling on tuba just adds a whole new dimension to being a musician. And the rest of the guys in the band, now I know what sisterhood feels like!

When I saw myself in the mirror I realized I look like a mix of my mom and Björn Borg (my mom’s never… Continue

Rhythms in wood and stone

Hi!

Lately, because it's summer & we all need to feel cool, I've been putting wood together with various stones, handmade glass, & metals for a light effect. All are, after all, of & from our beautiful earth. I hope you'll enjoy my little contribution to this site's beauty, & I wish you all a hot, cool summer!

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
