Don't put me in a box!

There are so many people in the music industry that want to put an

artist in a box. ie: Your either country, blues, jazz, etc... you get

the idea. True enough, I love country music but I am an artist that

loves and appreciates fine music! It doesn't mater what style or what

era it may come from. I feel that "Gold is gold!" That is why in my

shows I enjoy doing music of every style and from almost every era. I

love the music of Dinah Washington, Miles Davis,…

"...the times and travels of an american bluesman."

SOUL-PATROL.com PRESS RELEASE :

"As you all know, in my humble opinion, Billy Jones is one of the most compelling artists around on today's NuBlues music scene.

For his latest album, he has put together a collection of his best songs on a single album called "The Billy Jones Story." This is something that I wish more artists should do with some of the outstanding music they have released and I am glad to see that Billy has taken that step.

These songs are…

Rest In Peace AL GOODMAN

AL GOODMAN (Willie Albert Goodman)

of famed R&B groups The Moments and Ray, Goodman & Brown most noted for the songs, "Love On A Two Way Street", "Special Lady" and "Take It To The Limit" has passed but his voice will never be silenced. You may not recognize his name, but his music escorted many of us through the tender adolescence of "first crushes" into the mature years of grandparenthood. With his name inscribed on the labels of vinyl LPs, 45s,…

July 27, 2010 - Day 99.

Faith... Fact... Friendship... Fate... Who's your daddy?

In other words, Dear Reader, what do you rely on? Now, despite the passed two weeks of reflection that being away from home has provided yours truly, I will confess to an idleness regarding this central question of existence. Nevertheless, let's see where this goes...? It's no revelation as from whence my current quandary comes. Since it has been almost two weeks of monitoring the so called, integrity of the Macondo oil…

Let me tell you about a girl!

October will be two years ago that I

was doing a gig with The Nashtones at the Music City Bar and Grill on

Music Valley Dr. in Nashville. About 10:30 that evening, as we finished

for our first set. I saw the band hurry down off of the stage. I wasn't

sure why but when I stepped out from behind my keyboards to join the

guys for break, I soon found out what the hurry was all about. Sitting

at a table in the front of the room was this…

Oh What A Night!

Last night I had the

honor and the privilege of performing with The Nashtones at the

University of the South in Sewanee, Tn. The occasion was a writers

symposium and it was so much fun. The people were lovely and had such a

great time. Everyone did a lot of dancing, laughing and memory making.

This is the second time I have had the pleasure of performing at this

event. I look forward to returning next year.…

Everyone Needs A Hero!

Everyone needs a hero and Stevie Ray Vaughn would be mine. Every time I stand on a Nashville stage and belt out Pride and Joy, I look up to the heavens

and thank Stevie for such a great song and for all the fantastic music

he left for all of us.

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Duke Ellington: Highlights Of His Twilight

The great composer and bandleader was distraught over the 1967 death of Billy Strayhorn, his songwriting and arranging partner of 28 years. But Ellington took Strayhorn's passing as an impetus, born of necessity, to increase his own productivity. Here are five examples.

Chris Potter Quartet On JazzSet

At the Village Vanguard, one flight down from the hubbub of New York City, in a tight space packed with people, we're about to embark on a musical odyssey by sea. Our captain is saxophonist Chris Potter, who's launching his Odyssey-inspired album The Sirens.

Pat Metheny And John Zorn: A Vivid Sound World

The two artists are known opposites in the world of instrumental music. On Metheny's latest, the jazz guitarist wrings an unexpectedly visual listening experience from Zorn's knotty compositions.

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.
