Video from Bergen Performing Arts Center & NYB&JS Battle of the Bands 10/4

Happy Autumn, Everyone!!

Hello, All! Our opening slot for the Bacon Brothers last week at Bergen Performing Arts Center was extremely enjoyable and successful - selling cds and making new fans, not to mention getting to hang with the brothers in the green room. Kyra Sedgewick was there, too (I'm a HUGE fan of "The Closer!") and she was just the coolest, hanging in the audience and dancing her every loving behind off in support of her handsome husband. Our show went great, and then we got… Continue

“A jazz musician who has taken the spotlight on the world.”

Dear Reader, we return to a “very interesting subject” which Mr. Barker brought to the Xavier students of a generation ago. The case of Hamaas Khaalis, a Bebop drummer turned “revolutionst,” and the very true story of the Hanafi Siege which took place in Washington D.C. in 1977. I myself was 13 years old when the three-day stand-off occurred, and was unaware of it until I encountered Danny's cassette archives. I'll admit,… Continue

I'd like to invite everyone to listen to an episode of Jason Crane's "The Jazz Session". This particular interview is with respected jazz journalist, Marc Myers, host of the JazzWax.com. Jason and Marc talk about Bud Shank's association with the Laurindo Almeida Quartet, a group put together by bassist Harry Babasin, and its influence on the creation of the Bossa Nova - great listen -…

September 22nd, 2009

Dear Reader, may we begin with a mindfulness of Mr. Danny Barker.

Barker.wav

The back door is open and the windows are raised; it's Tuesday, March 15th, 1977 – I would guess that it's a beautiful day over the Xavier University campus. Nevertheless, it is time to let the bad air out. It is apparent that Mr. Barker is... "playing it cool." It is very interesting to hear how he carefully approaches… Continue

Minds of Glass by Marta Bressi and Dirk Schreurs to be screened at the 2009 International Independent Film and Video Festival in New York on October 24.

Thanks to Marta G. Bressi who´s generously offered me her extraordinary talent to generate beautiful video images to all eleven compositions from my album ¨Minds of Glass¨ , we 've been able to create brand-new works together. This collaboration, which was born as two separate entities, came to fruition when I saw in Marta's digital art a reflection of my own visualisations when composing the music. It… Continue

The Jazz Network Worldwide is comprised of all the subsets of the industry worldwide from managers, agents, publicists, venues, festivals, radio stations, studios, musicians, vocalists, etc. and of course fans.  You can use it as a database by utilizing the tool bar for what you seek to connect and network with.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."

Let's be audacious, my friends!
