i hear so much complaining about this subject, i just wanted to lay my practical experience on you. free.
first, three pre-conditions:
1. if you are a very materialistic person, skip this article, i don't think you are going to like what it says.
2. if you don't have the music where you want it art-wise, you might want to go work on that, this article isn't going to help you much either. you will be better off by practicing and studying and working on your music…

"The true measure of a man is not how he behaves in moments of comfort and convenience but how he stands at times of controversy and challenges"

It goes without saying that this year has been a tough one for many of us; Musique Noire is no exception. Within the group we've had marriages, welcomed babies, lost loved ones dear to us and worked through financial difficulties.
But one thing has stayed constant. . .the support we've received from…

Wow, 2009 was a pretty amazing year. Lots of great things happened.
Some of the highlights for me were, performing at the famous Band Shell in New York´s Central Park in September, visiting family and friends in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, and bringing my 1956 Gibson Les Paul guitar (a present from my dad when I was a kid) back with me to Berlin, Germany. Man, did I have a GREAT time. I´ve got tons of photos, and just uploaded a few of me at the airport bringing back my… Continue

There is a strong desire for a Mindfulness of our Ancestors. Here is the last week of the year, the ending of the first decade of the new century, and a little further distancing from the 20th century. Indeed, western civilization has made its baby steps into a new millennium of media. And yet, old ideas take so long to relinquish themselves.
Time is a wondrous thing. The more I get, the more I want – it seems. (Maybe.) Time allows for greater awareness and deeper understanding. Time…

I first covered Billy Holiday's Strange Fruit at an electro-acoustic night in Glasgow's Nice And Sleazy bar, adding a bit of blues harp to a straight-ish interpretation of the song by Scottish singer Teresa Magee. Some time later at the Brutalise Studio in Huddersfield, Cecil Zinyuku, a dance music producer for the likes of De'Lacy, came up with a beautiful new arrangement. It's up there now on the Jazz Network, on British blues band m62 goddam's page. We hope you like it..

This is notably one of the most nostalgic 1950's style Blues songs ever written;

Real friendship or love is not manufactured or achieved by an act of will or intention. Friendship is always an act of recognition... in the moment of friendship, two souls suddenly recognize each other. It could be a meeting on the street, or at a party or a lecture, or just a simple, banal…

hello all
Ray just called me on the phone after I contacted him via email to tell me that he is fine and this was some kind of hoax. Apparently, someone hacked his email account and sent out these email perhaps to find a way to scam money.
Please know brother and sista’ Musicians that there are some SICK and DEMENTED people out there and we all must be very careful, but never give up supporting and caring for one another.
Peace and much love

“Son do!”
This was the nick name that young Dan earned in glowing reflection of his eager willingness to please others and work. Danny substantiates this characterization in several instances. Among his memoirs, there are detailed tales of life in Downtown Orleans Parish. In this season of the God blessed child, this
fin de cicle post focuses again on the jazzy childhood of Daniel Moses Barker.
“So I have vivid memories of what was happening on the river and I saw…

Probably one of the most popular Christmas songs ever recorded: "The Christmas Song", 1944, Mel Tormé and Bob Wells.
As a present to the JAZZ NETWORK, I introduce Mr. Bobby Cottonwood, in an unpublished recording session @ STUDIO 57A in late 2007. Using my custom made U47 valve microphone, and even sick as he was with the flue - he nailed it in one take.
Thanks Bobby . . .
It is a piece of recording history . . . .
