John Sussewell's Blog (9)

Eenee meenie miney mo; with with one shall I BLOG!?

You see?

Whenever there's conflict, people get conflicted!  LOL!  At least I do.

We don't even seem to rhyme the way we know we should.  I mean, shall I use Jai Jai's Jazz Network Worldwide to BLOG, or should I use Facebook to BLOG?  Eenee meenie miney mo... with which one shall I go!?  Oops - BLOG!?

I've decided that since I love both interfaces for specific reasons, I'll deploy the Jazz Network Worldwide for music stuff and Facebook for social…

In Memoria

Please take a moment to remember the lives sacrificed to protect our Freedom and Liberty in this present world. Mothers lost sons; Fathers lost families; Children lost Parents - and the Living God is still waiting on Mankind to discern the difference between our sentiments and His Purpose for our lives. Here’s just a glimpse into what that Purpose is - based upon a lifetime of formal study by yours truly:

“From whence come wars and fightings among you? - come they not hence, even of… Continue

The Last Day - Inspired by Kenneth Morris, My Real Friend!

Re: http://www.johnsussewell.com/The_Last_Day-KenMorris.mp3

Ken is a long time friend of mine since my early days in New York City among those carving out their crafts in studios and stages. I'm so happy to be in touch with this man: Kenneth Morris. He now resides in California.

To Whom IT MUST Concern.

To Whom It May Concern:

Re: http://www.johnsussewell.com/Questionaire-GavinMartin-November13-2009.pdf

[You will need the free Reader of Portable Document Files from Adobe.com]

I only post this to say what others continually pulse me for from both the creative and business side of the music industry. I provide - and that in a timely fashion - to encourage, and not didache/Teach. My… Continue

Blessings & Cursings: Bouncing & Blessing: "aorist" terms for "ongoing."

Re: http://www.johnsussewell.com/Bounce&Bless-EddiePalmeiri&Suss2003.mp3 [5MB]

Seeming as a conflict of terms (juxtaposed), I think that both “Bouncing” and “Blessing” are one in the same. The reasons for this may appear hidden; but the manifest Destiny for anyone has already been revealed. When I recorded this with Mr. Palmeiri (as an overdub Opportunity back in 2003 via Pete Corona),… Continue

Suss's SAGE gleanings

Hi All,

Please do not think by anyone’s acumen that (anyone is) is better than anyone else. I do not think myself more highly than I ought. It’s just that when so many contribute into my life, I MUST reciprocate with Fruit, rather than futility. I desire so many more to reflect, when in your sphere, so many more have taken so much away.

Hence, I wax gross and large!

When Suss is totally immersed, he’s in a zone.

When I’m out of the zone, I’m… Continue

SussStanding (Us Standing with Understanding).

I speak to a very special Community here; at the behest of Jaijai. It is all about the fusion of our cultures; wherever we come from. You will hear an almagation of songs in my post: yet it all stems from Jazz, while I'm still (obviously playing the true artform). I'm going toward; and that with alacrity.

Whatever music is heard by hyperlinks, I perform the drums in concert (and agreement).

I never thought that I would have a career, though it is commonly (perhaps… Continue

A Conundrum In Real Time...

Though many seem muffled, we still have a voice and the means to express it in any forum. Do not be intimidated. Do not muzzle the oxe that treads out the corn!

In a g***** economy (efficiency) without the Arts, I revisit what “efficacy” is about. From basic physics comes the definition of “work:” Work is defined as being done when a certain power is applied to an object in a certain vector (direction) during the course of time. When… Continue

Love Is... But Beautiful

ButBeautiful.MP3

[8.26 MB]

My apologies to anyone who may be offended by my testimony today. This is my ultimate web log (blog) to date: without regard toward commercial gain nor the subjugation of personal responsibility which reflects upon no one I’m associated with nor controlled or programmed by. I will make note, however, of those folks whom I have the highest respect and regards for…

I only ask that… Continue

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Sarah Vaughan: A New Box Set Revels In Glorious Imperfections

Divine: The Jazz Albums, 1954-1958 packs four CDs with Vaughan's music, recorded live or in the studio with bands big and small. Two live albums from Chicago nightclubs are standouts, partly when a performance threatens to slide off the rails.

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.
