By now, some of you have seen the photos and videos of Chantz Powell that I have posted on TJN.
As his personal publicist and on behalf of his management, Glindella Entertainment, I would like to formerly introduce, to you, this multi-talented Jazz trumpeter, who also sings, dances up a storm, acts, and is being touted by the B.B.C. (UK) as “the next Louis Armstrong/Sammy Davis Jr."
Often described by his peers as "old of soul
," this very engaging, charismatic native of New Orleans, known simply as "Chantz"
is an extraordinarily gifted performer who pays homage to those great Jazz legends of the past, while he shows through performance his admiration for today's contemporary R&B/Soul artists such as Usher.
Chantz has been a headliner at such major venues as London’s Royal Albert Hall
, as well as and the Manchester, Belfast and Sheffield Arenas
. He has headlined at Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival
, the World Beat Festival in Tunisia
, France’s Strasbourg Jazz Festival
, and he was an opening act at the Slida Jazz Festival
in Norway. He has headlined at Ronnie Scott’s
in London, the Quai du Blues in Paris
, and has been an opening act at the Juan Les Pins
in Antibes, France. Here, at home, he has appeared as a special guest with the Duke Ellington Jazz Orchestra
at the Birdland in New York, and with the Dizzy Gillespie Jazz Orchestra
at the Bahi Center in Los Angeles.
An excellent one-hour documentary entitled The Child of Jazz
and Chance It,
which was released in France and throughout Europe, was nominated for an Emmy and selected as the “Best Documentary” at The Cannes Film Festival
. This documentary, which was produced by French director/photographer, Mohammed Kounda, was initially released in London as My Louis Armstrong Years.
The brilliantly chronicled documentary, spanning a five-year period, shows the remarkable transformation of a 12-year old Jazz-loving student, who has now evolved into a seasoned professional among his mentors and peers; one of whom happens to be Wynton Marsalis.
Formerly signed to Decca/Universal Classics, at the age of 17, Chantz is currently in discussions with several major labels. He is also slated to perform at an Illinois fundraising benefit, later this spring, along the campaign trail of presidential candidate, Barack Obama. In the meantime, Chantz can be found packing audiences in on the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) through June 28.
