PLAY Arezzo Art Festival, organized by Arezzo Commune and Province, Tuscany Region, Association Bluesin and Metamusic, will take place in Arezzo from 23rd to 27th July 2008.

This edition's title is "Sotto lo stesso cielo - under the same sky", the theme "il cielo - sky" we will find as a protagonist in the performances of the various sections of the festival: music, theater, literature, cinema, dance and multimedia. The sky represents the great infinitive that contains our planet and our lives. The sky expresses research, spirituality, inspiration, religion, philosophy, poetic e artistic.

The sky that will envelop the historic center of Arezzo, where the stages of PLAY Arezzo Art Festival will be situated. It will unit the art and the feeling of the various artists: will be the sun of California that has given heat and intensity on the music of Ben Harper or those of the Balcan that has influenced the rhythms of Goran Bregovic. It will be also subtele atmosphere of Peter Brook, and the urban sky, from electronic flavors from Torino's Subsonica.

Monday, July 21, inauguration of the festival with Joan Baez contert in Piazza della Libertŕ.

Wednesday, July23, inauguration of Play Campus, the beginning which presents the production which is result of theatral workshop realized during the year. We'll see the theater production with young actors (under the guide of A. Biagiotti and A. Piccardi), based on collective text writted by lecturer's workshop (with the supervision of D. Nelli and L. Scarlini). At the end of the evening, the best bands selected from the competition and "produced" by national expert.

Thursday, July 24, the evening is exclusively dedicated to the great: Peter Brook with his last work "Fragments", the unique date in Italy during next summer. His performance will be presented in "Teatro Petrarca" opened just for this special occasion (second performance on 25 July). Peter Brook is one of the most important theatral director of XX and XXI centuries. The evening continues changing from theatre to dance, with the representation "Limits", famous company Motus. At the end of the evening, dance and multimedia, with Ariella Vidach in "DANXYmusic". This day will begin also the cinema section, in collaboration with "Mediateca Regionale - Toscana Film Commission", with a film of Soldini "Giorni e Nuvole" (Days and Clouds) and the section literature with the first authors guests, organised by Edison Bookstore.

Friday, July 25, begins the real cultural activity through all the city, it will be focused on Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals in the new location of the festival, the main stage "Fortezza Medicea". The guitarist comes back in Italy after two tours gone sold-out with"Lifeline", the lastest album jumped as the number one in the classifications and awarded with gold disc. Before the concert we can see the winners of the competition Plug & Play's competition. In the others sections, will be Peter Brook's play, the cinema with two projections, the literature with Chiara Gamberale, Sergio Nazzaro, Simona Carlesi, Riccardo Goretti. The theatre with the "Autobahn" and "Teatro con valigia". Buskers and the winners of the festival "On The Road Pelago Festival" and for conclude the night, the observation of the sky with the band "Astrofili" from Arezzo and an evening of electronic music in Sugar Reef.

Saturday, July 26, like the last year, it will be the longest day, the day with numerous shows and meetings. It starts in the afternoon with the meeting of literature: Bruno Casini, Alessandro Fullin, Alessandro Cattalan. On tha main stage we can see the winners of Plug & Play, followed by the group Piemontese of elettro-pop No Conventional Sound. Then it will be the time of SUBSONICA, one of the most interesting band in Italy. The night will conclude with the Dj "Set di Pau" from Negrita and the astronomical observation in the "Fortezza" with the band Astrofili. For the section of cinema, will be projected "Caramel" and "Lessons of Chocolate". We can see company Arrischianti and CassePipe; the Buskers and the Dj Set in Sugar Reef Musicology. This evening we ca see also a review of horror short movies.

Sunday, July 27, it will be a day dedicated to heaven as an occasion for reflection on the theme of peace, dialogue between cultures and solidarity. The festival proposes, for the entire day, meetings, conferences, concerts related to the topic of multi-culture and tolerance.

The theatre will present two performances with social issues and of reflection with companies, "Diesis Teatrango", and the famous director Emma Dante with "Il Festino". The literature and meetings for this day will be filled by stronger content, con the presentation of new novel by Vauro, Marcello Villella. We can also partecipate on the Conference organised by Association La Rondine and the Italians for Darfur association that are collecting signatures to keep alive the attention on the crisis in Darfur. An intervention separately, but by the great emotional impact, will be that of Biblioteca Vivente, a live story performers from various countries on the theme of integration.

On the main stage, Kultur Shock, Max Gazze', Carmen Consoli and musician of extraordinary charisma as Goran Bregovic.

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.

I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.

My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."
