The Genius
I was truly flattered the other night when producer Bob Belden gave me a present. The complete Miles Davis On The Corner Sessions Boxed Set
I took it home and read the liner notes and listened to half the CDs.It showed me one thing.True genius transcends time.I remember when On The Corner came out.It really stirred emotions in our musical community.I listen now to this music and say Miles was a genius who was so far ahead of his time that he was lost in time and then transcended it.
The Music seems so fresh and alive and dangerous.
I really believe that musical genius is not given the chance anymore to flourish like Miles did,too many restrictions by the main stream. That is why when the next paradigm happens it won't be anything that anybody saw coming. That's how it works. It's never calculated-It just is-with no explanations necessary.
I feel so fortunate that I was able to know and feel the genius that Miles had thought his life.I'm starting to think back and absorb more and more the interesting and cutting edge thoughts and ideas he was always putting out there when we used to hang out.
I totally recommend this box set to see the beginnings of hip hop, groove and electric groove on the edge-Only like Miles could do it
Peace, Jason
