Ghalib Ghallab Jazz Experience in Colombo, Sri Lanka where Jazz is Alive and Well

We here in Colombo, Sri Lanka to do a series of Jazz Performances in various venues including Chennai and Banglaore, India also Dubai, UAE and it has started off wonderfully well.

After fifteen hours of traveling from Las Vegas to Dubai, UAE a seven hour layover and a four hour flight from Dubai to Colombo, Sri Lanka total twenty six hours of travel time we landed upon this this country where Jazz is Alive and Well. Would you believe less than three hours on the ground we're of to our first Jazz Festival in Sri Lanka. I was told that drinking plenty of water would lesson the jet lag. I did drink a lot of water on the plane and yet there's still some jet lag. My body has to adjust to the time here. Mind you its 1:00 AM January 4, 2010 today here in Colombo, Sri Lanka and 11:30 AM January 3, 2010, yesterday in Las Vegas so I don't know If I'm coming or going.

On the first of every Sunday they have a Jazz Fest. They have some very talented musicians here in Sri Lanka these Cats can groove. I enjoyed the sound of a guitar player, he played like George Benson and sang like Al Jerreau, outstanding player, the rythem section was wonderful also didn't get there names but these were good players They let Jihad Ghallab my son (drums ), Rick Arroyo (percussion) Brother Rashid ( percussion ) from Puerto Rico, and myself sit in with them . This was a good blend of music.

We start Wednesday with a setup and sound check and some practice then our Concert starts Thursday we play all the way through Sunday at different Venues here in Colombo, Sri Lanka then on to Chennai, India for the next series of gigs.

I'll get back at you with more details happening in a couple of days.

Peace,
Ghalib

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.

Miguel Zenón Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard

Ever since he started becoming one of the best alto saxophone players in the world, Zenón has drawn from his upbringing in Puerto Rico.
