There are some discouraging signs going on in the jazz community and we need to figure out a way to help change the course that is being taken, a case in point, the radio stations taking jazz programmers off the air.
One of our Jazz Programmers, Bobby Jackson, at radio station, WCPN in Cleveland was the latest to get a pink slip and will no longer be a voice on the radio jazz scene. This is happening as we speak with other radio stations across the country and eliminating jazz programmers is hurting our community as well as the art of the music.
The fact that Jazz Times magazine almost bit the dust and JazzIz is no longer operating is a
sure sign that those of us, musicians, singers, performers, promoters, etc., need to start thinking in ways to counteract this trend.
JaiJai and the Jazz Network is a place to start. At least she is thinking outside of the box, and sharing her ideas. How about sharing yours. Maybe we can come up with some positive ideas that we can take action with.
