Eleven.

One up...

You can imagine. Our ancestors must have had a troubling time getting to, 11. Nonetheless, it was assuredly a healing time for them once they did eventually reach one more.

Greetings once again, Dear Reader. Truly, a happy new year to you. Several years ago, I came to the conclusion that, happiness is highly overrated. I say: go for the joy and ecstasy. We have been told; there's always more.

Nevertheless, given that we are on the discussion the time required for us to make a trip around the Sun; May your trip and travel around in 2011 be an overall happy one. And, may you and I be within a peaceful, healthy, and prosperous point in our journeys once this cycle is complete over the remaining 354 earthly spins.

Ten had us spinning like a top!

We won; we lost. Spoke: “Hi, nice to meet you!” Heard: “Love you.” and “Glad you made it thru.” We said good-bye.

Lena Horne. Abbey Lincoln. James Moody...

There wasn't a chance for me to say, good-bye to friend & colleague, Drex Brumfield. To put it simply, it is one of those situations wherein I would have prefed to offer him more love. It reminds me. Love/Life is so precious and worthy; why not turn it up to “11”  and avoid pity.

That equation seems to remain as I remember also the great New Orleans drummer, Bernard 'Bunchie' Johnson – one of the nicest people that I have ever met. (and man... could he groove it!)

New Orleans' Holidaze 2010 has been quite a whirlwind tour! Of course it is a blessing to see friends and family here in New Orleans. Wherever else you live, you are a New Orleanian when you roll from Maison Musique. Thank you for visiting; thank you for caring. I appreciate your kindness. Come again. Right now it's Carnival Time!

Just below in Comments, you will find a few different links of information.  It is an honor to be within your story, and amoung your counting.

Here's a compelling piece of media which I stumbled upon. I was ignorant of this gentleman and his story. It is troubling, and healing. His name is Chris Abani. He has the right to muse on humanity.

Peace,
E.

Peace to Drex...

He was... an occasional annoyance to me; nevertheless, I couldn't have done it without him. He opened the doors of Historic St. Augustine Church to me; and I am forever grateful.

The year was 1999; I had been a resident of New Orleans for only a few months. I was... a nobody. He gave me the opportunity to be the "special guest" for one of the many Jazz Mass' which he... coordinated. The funny part is, he apparently didn't tell the Choir Director, Carol Leblanc, that I would be a part of service that Sunday. You can imagine...

I sang, Steal Away. It was probably the first time that I had ever sung that Spiritual in public. It was following Holy Communion; and to my blessed surprise, the pew sitters began to sing along.

Steal away... steal away... steal away to Jesus.

Steal away... steal away home. I aint got long to stay here.

He was also instrumental in showing me the way to Danny's house. I remember an evening in his apartment in Treme. He went to a closet and pulled out some characteristic clothing of the late and great, dapper Danny. Needless to say, I had to try on (just for fun) Mr. Barker's polyester coat and pants! and... shoes.

Walking the walk.

E.

The Jazz Network is exactly what the title suggests, a place where you get to mix and mingle with those who have not only an appreciation for Jazz but a forum to hear new up and coming artists as well. I've hooked up with so many of my old friends that I've lost contact with over the years here and it's been a great place to meet folk, appreciate good music and Musicianship. What an incredible idea!!

Rudresh Mahanthappa On Piano Jazz

Mahanthappa brings an explosive blend of jazz and South Indian classical music to the studio.

Grady Tate On Piano Jazz

Grady Tate began his jazz career as a much-celebrated drummer, backing such icons as Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones. Tate has since traded in his skins for a microphone at center stage, where he delivers smooth and soulful baritone vocals. With pianist John di Martino, Tate sings "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Where Do You Start."

Woody Herman At 100: 'A Blues Player From His Heart'

He was a soulful reedman, an amazing talent scout for decades and a bandleader of one of the country's most popular acts. Born in 1913, Herman led "Thundering Herds" that were both big draws and well-respected by the likes of Igor Stravinsky. Here are five recordings which still sound fresh today.

Edmar Castañeda And Friends On JazzSet

Hear passionate improvisation across borders on Colombian harp, Argentinian bandoneón, Venezuelan cuatro and vibes from the U.S. In a set with Castañeda, his trio and special guests perform at the Americas Society in New York.

Miguel Zenón Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard

Ever since he started becoming one of the best alto saxophone players in the world, Zenón has drawn from his upbringing in Puerto Rico. But, like many Puerto Ricans, Zenón lives in New York — where his quartet of 10 years has finally been invited to play the Vanguard. It presents new music in concert.
