Thanks Alphonse. And yup, as a dad, I had an enjoyable Father's Day.
Just to say caught a clip of you with Weather Report along with Miroslav etc and indeed Jon Surman and Skid (Alan Skidmore) on flute - by far some of the best Brit players who had the sense to get out of the UK! Just fabuluous. As fresh now as was then. And streets ahead of much supposed 'new' stuff around now.
Plus there's definitely a buzz happening about the resurgence of such as RTF etc and what you oioneered. Certainly it's rubbed off on my band and as you know I'll always be grateful to you and Tony W Joe Wayne Miles et al. So much to be done now and really made the most of. Maybe one day we might yet share the same stage. Who knows? It'd be an honour!
hello alphonse! how have you been? check out my few new songs on: http://www.myspace.com/petracaramela
my new cd is ready but longer songs versions still to come. lots of work but big fun! take care, P
Dear Alphonse, how's the great AM doing? Glad to see that 'fusion's' (although I hate labels but you know what I mean!) 'kinda' starting to come back into the consciousness. Still can't beat AM a' roarin' behind 'Mind Transplant' n' of course Larry Corryel's such a wonderful player. Was listening to Miles, 'Spanish Key' and was thinking how such as you Tony, Leon, Acuna, Billy, Eric, Buddy M et al made it all possible. Blessings and all power of the groove to you!
Was playing 'Mind Transplant' (the album) still one of my (and the band's) favorite albums. Sounds as fresh today as the day it was recorded and has remained a huge influence on me/us musically. And of course there's the wonderful (and tragic) Tommy Bolin. We've got a new young hugely gifted Italian guitarist with the band now, and he's been totally blown away by Tommy's playing. Who knows what else Tommy may have achieved. But the legacy remains. What's so important about such work is its sheer guts, fire and passion, essences SO badly lacking in much of jazz/rock now.
We hope to redress the balance.
Hi! Hello, again, Alphonse!
Thanks for the add here as well!! So nice to make friends with you!
We really should meet some day. I believe we can be good friends in real life, too. Your photos are all so cool! You must be proud of your children. Apparently, they've taken over lots of talents from you.
I'd love to follow you... ;-)
But actually I came to this site quite a while ago but never followed it much. So I thought I'd start. I noticed you were here too... just nice to see another friend. Your dog in the pic is so adorable. You've got some great pics up there.
We got a new baby in the family of jazz? Hold on, wait a minute, whaaaattttt? Congrats Grandpappy! Wow....how wonderful!! We need pics! You must be so elated. All the warmest wishes from all of us here in the Network Al...to Jean-Pierre and his lovely wife...and to our newest blessing....
Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.
I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.
My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."
