Diana - you are way too cool! I'm finding so much great music through you - thank you, thank you, thank you! I really enjoy Machi's work, very raw and straight ahead. It seems like there's some great music happening in Argentina, I'm going to have to get down there. Someday . . .
Alright, here's a vocalist for you - check out Kat Parra. She actually lives up here in the San Francisco Bay Area. She does a wide variety of stuff from Cuban edged jazz to straight ahead and Peruvian material. She's got a great voice, I think that you'd enjoy it. You can check out my review here or go to her MySpace & listen.
Keep the listening suggestions coming - I'm loving it!
Diana - thanks for the tip! Javier is quite a musician - he's got an aggressive tone, lots of chops, and a pretty broad range of styles. Great stuff, I'm going to try to track down some of his recordings. I love finding new recordings like this, it makes my day!
I do quite a few reviews of Latin Jazz vocalists on my blog - have you ever heard of a vocalist from Argentina named Sofia Koutsovitis? I really enjoy her work; she lives in New York now and does some pretty fantastic stuff. You can check out my review of her album here or check out her MySpace to hear some tracks. Just thought that you might be interested.
Diana - Your vocals sound great! You do a wonderful job jumping between styles and maintaining artistic integrity. I'm glad that I found you here.
I'd be very interested to here about the jazz scene in Argentina - I've been following quite a few musicians from there that mostly integrate tango into jazz. I'm sure that there's much more to the scene, I'd love to hear about it!
I just popped over to listen to your 'Corcovado'.....just wonderful!.....how I wish I could sing in Portuguese....would be the perfect touch! I also recorded "Gentle Rain" on my CD. I like your version too!
Sorry for my tardy response. I am going to have someone help me put up some music...must do so. But meanwhile, Jai Jai has put me up as the feature this week, so you could have a listen. i enjoyed hearing your music. Great to meet you on this amazing jazz network!!
love to you,Sunny
Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.
I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. Here we can garnish the where-with-all, the strength, the conviction, and the selflessness through our symbiosis, to share our gift to the world with an unbiased agenda.
My mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says of art: "A beautiful flower delights and refreshes the hearts of all people equally, no matter what soil it grows in. That is the power of beauty. The same is true of great art. It is this spirit that the German poet Heinrich Heine sang of when he wrote that once the peapod bursts open, the sugar peas inside are for everyone to enjoy."
