Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band began a four-night run at the Blue Note with a lineup that was both old and new. 
Jazz at Lincoln Center presented two major large-ensemble pieces by members of its orchestra last week: “God’s Trombones,” by the trombonist Chris Crenshaw, and “Inferno,” by the saxophonist Sherman Irby. 
Michael Feinstein led a powerful night of tribute to the jazz singer Ethel Waters at Lincoln Center. 
Over the next week and a half, musicians will take part in Jazzrael, a festival of jazz and world music presented by the Israeli Consulate in New York.
